For people who live outdoors
Svala has been making clothing for life outdoors since 1955. Functional products have always been the foundation, but what you can do and experience with them has mattered just as much.
Kyösti Svala, the son of Svala's founders, was a passionate outdoorsman. He rowed, ran, fished, went cross-country skiing and picked berries. Together with his friends, he developed and tested gear, learned from experience and kept making the products better.
We carry the same idea forward today.
We believe the best experiences, ideas and insights come from doing things and sharing them with others.

Everyone who wears Svala is a freebird
A Freebird isn't a title, an achievement or a special status. It's someone who feels at home outdoors, moves in their own way and values gear that works.
For one person, that means hiking in the fells. For another, it's a swim after a morning run, a hunting trip, a bike ride or a quiet moment in the forest.
There's no one right way to be a Freebird.
If you wear Svala, you're one of us.

Freebird Guides – experience and know-how to share
Trusted by experts. Chosen by explorers.
Freebird Guides are experienced enthusiasts and experts in a range of outdoor activities who share their knowledge for the benefit of the whole community.
They talk about their own activities, the conditions they face and what they’ve learned, and help you understand how the right layering makes being outdoors more comfortable.
With them, we explore different ways of moving through nature and how the Svala AIR System™ works in practice.
Get to know the Freebird Guides and find tips for your own activity.

This is just the beginning
What if Svala could one day be much more than clothing?
Imagine a morning on the fells, the first paddle strokes on a new waterway or a weekend somewhere you might never have gone otherwise. New activities, new landscapes and people to share experiences with.
That's the future we want to build for the Freebird community.
We dream of trips and events together, journeys near and far, and a growing Freebird Guides network where you can discover new hobbies, learn from experienced people and see familiar places with fresh eyes.
Perhaps one day there will also be Freebird Editions – special products, unexpected collaboration collections and small product runs inspired by the community itself.
We don't know yet where this journey will take us. And we don't need to.
