“A clothes brush is a quick way to freshen up your clothes between wears. Dust, crumbs and (a fraction of) pet hair stay in the brush, and the garment is presentable again in no time. Regular brushing also helps prevent pilling, so it’s worth keeping a clothes brush within reach.”

A hairbrush for wool

A clothes brush does for wool what a hairbrush does for hair: it loosens tangles, adds loft and smooths the surface. Wool knitwear and other woollen garments with a fluffy surface benefit most from brushing.

From the Svala range, the brush is especially suited to wool knitwear and to garments from the Merino Extreme and Svala Signature Pääsky collections. It is also suitable for the most delicate wool qualities, silk and even tights. You can use it to clean outdoor clothing and gear too, and despite its name, it also works on home textiles and furniture.

Less washing, longer life

When you brush the surface of a garment regularly, loose fibres, dirt and fluff come off before they have a chance to build up. The garment stays neat for longer, and you need to wash it less often. Brushing also reduces pilling.

Brush a textile:

  • when it needs tidying up
  • before or after airing it
  • before storing it

BioniFil® bristles

The Arkivé Care clothes brush has vegan, castor-oil-based BioniFil® bristles. They are cut to just the right length for textiles. The soft, densely set bristles remove dirt from the surface of the fabric and smooth it. A brush cleaner is included.

Which garments is the clothes brush suitable for?

The clothes brush is suitable for all Svala clothing and accessories, but woollen and merino wool garments benefit most from brushing, such as garments from the Merino Extreme and Nordic Terry Wool collections. If a garment has worn through, repair it with a FabPatch Merino patch and extend its life.

Caring for the brush

Clean the clothes brush with the small brush cleaner included and, if needed, with a vacuum cleaner. The brush doesn't need washing, but you can rinse it under running water if you like. Dry the wooden handle with a towel straight away. Leave the brush to dry in an airy place on a towel with the bristles facing down, so that the wood doesn't crack and the lacquer doesn't flake.

Frequently asked questions about the product

Why brush your clothes?

Brushing removes loose fibres, dirt and lint from the surface of a garment before they have a chance to build up. The garment stays neat for longer and needs washing less often, which extends the life of woollens in particular. Brushing also fluffs up and smooths the surface of the knit and reduces pilling.

Will brushing make my clothes pill?

No, quite the opposite. Brushing removes loose fibres from the surface before they can twist into pills, so regular brushing reduces pilling. The bristles are soft and cut to just the right length for textiles, so when you brush lightly, they don't catch on the knit or pull threads.

How do I brush correctly?

Brush with light, long strokes, always in the same direction, not back and forth. Lay the garment on a flat surface or hang it up so the surface stays straight. Press only lightly: the effect comes from the density of the bristles, not from force.

Is the brush suitable for Airbase mesh knit?

Mesh knit doesn't need brushing in the same way as wool, because its surface isn't fluffy. The brush is still handy for removing lint and loose fibres that have stuck to the mesh. Brush lightly and avoid pushing the bristles through the mesh openings.

How often should I brush my clothes?

Whenever the garment needs tidying up, and before you put it away for storage. For many woollens, brushing and airing are enough instead of washing, which makes the garment last noticeably longer. Merino wool doesn't start to smell easily, so washing is often only needed once there is visible dirt on the knit.

How long does the clothes brush last?

The brush is made to last for years. The handle is lacquered beech and the bristles are made of castor oil-based BioniFil®. If you clean the brush regularly with the brush cleaner included, the bristles stay effective.

What's the difference between a clothes brush and a lint roller?

A lint roller picks up lint on an adhesive surface that ends up in the bin. A clothes brush does the same without any disposable parts, and it also smooths and fluffs up the surface of the knit, which a lint roller doesn't do. A brush is a one-off purchase, whereas you have to keep buying lint rollers.
