Dennis – socks you forget as soon as you put them on

Dennis merino sports socks solve a small but familiar problem for active people: how to keep your feet both warm and dry when your pace varies and your feet sweat. Merino wool is nature’s own smart material. It keeps you warm even when slightly damp and evens out temperature changes, so your feet stay comfortable throughout your workout. The terry sole feels soft underfoot and cushions every step, whether you are out for a run or on your feet all day.

Merino wool does not absorb sweat the way cotton does. Instead, it wicks moisture away from the skin and dries quickly. In practice, your feet do not stay damp inside your shoes, and they sweat less than they do in cotton socks. So the socks do not feel clammy, even after a long workout. Just a dry, light feeling that lets you focus on something other than your feet.

Merino wool is naturally odour-resistant, so when you take your socks off after training, you are not greeted by that familiar sports-sock smell. Instead, they feel as fresh as when you put them on. This is a natural property of wool, not an added treatment, so it lasts wash after wash.

Dennis merino sports socks come with a 100-day satisfaction guarantee. We want you to have time to try the socks properly: wear them as normal for 100 days. If you are not satisfied with them for any reason, you will get your money back.

Professionally tested Dennis merino sports socks for every situation

The stretchy cuff is slightly longer than on a standard ankle sock and keeps the sock firmly in place, so it does not slip down to your ankle or twist inside your shoe mid-workout. No more socks that slip off or need a second thought. The longer cuff also covers the ends of your base layer bottoms comfortably, so the layers do not feel tight or bunch up at the ankle. The firm stretch adapts to the shape of your foot without squeezing.

The seamless toe is at the heart of these socks. There is no seam over your toes to rub or press inside your shoe, so you will not feel that familiar pressure point on top of your big toe, even after a long workout. It is a small detail you only notice when it is missing.

The soft merino wool terry sole cushions every step and feels soft underfoot. The terry stays comfortable even at a faster pace, whether you are exercising or on your feet all day. The colour combinations beige-ochre, black-grey and pink-burgundy add a splash of colour to your sportswear.

Dennis merino sports socks are suitable for daily use all year round – for running, training, the outdoors and everyday life. They work both for exercise and as comfortable everyday socks when you want a soft sole underfoot.

In Svala AIR System™ layering, Dennis belongs to the Accessories range, which complements the main layers. While the Zero Layer and Base Layer manage moisture and warmth around your body, merino wool socks complete the system by keeping your feet warm and dry. A warm body needs warm feet too.

Thoughts from the designer

“Two things matter in a sports sock: whether it stays in place, and whether it still feels good when your feet are working hard. I wanted to make a sock with a soft terry sole that cushions every step, a firm cuff that stays put and a seamless toe that keeps your toes free from irritation. Merino wool takes care of the rest: warmth, moisture and freshness. A good sock is not one you notice during a workout, but one you forget as soon as you put it on.”

Ninni Pohto, designer at Svala

Materials with a purpose

Dennis merino sports socks are made from a soft merino wool blend: 52% mulesing-free merino wool, 47% polyamide and 1% elastane. Merino wool provides warmth, breathability and natural odour resistance, polyamide adds durability for exercise, and elastane adds stretch that keeps the socks in shape workout after workout.

Merino wool is naturally excellent at regulating temperature and moisture: it keeps you warm even when damp, wicks moisture away from the skin and evens out temperature changes. Long-fibre merino wool does not itch like ordinary wool, so the socks feel soft even on sensitive skin.

The merino wool in these socks is NATIVA™-certified, which means it is traceable and responsibly produced on mulesing-free farms. All materials meet the OEKO-TEX 100 standard, which guarantees the product is safe for skin contact.

The sizing allows for shrinkage. We recommend washing your merino wool socks before you wear them for the first time, so they fit true to size. The socks are made in Finland by Sukkamestarit, using responsibly produced merino wool and decades of experience.

Frequently asked questions about the product

How do Dennis merino sports socks differ from Raita merino wool socks?

Dennis and Raita are made from the same materials in different proportions and are designed for different uses:

  • Dennis is a sports sock with a soft terry sole that cushions every step and a slightly longer, snug cuff that stays in place while you train. It contains a little more polyamide for added durability.
  • Raita is a thin everyday sock with a smooth knit and no terry. It fits easily into narrow shoes too and feels lighter on your feet.

Choose Dennis if you want a soft, supportive sock for exercise and active use. Choose Raita if you are looking for a thin sock for everyday wear.

What is a terry sole, and does it make the sock thick?

A terry sole means that soft loops are knitted into the sole of the sock, on the underside of your foot, to cushion every step and add softness underfoot. The sole has some thickness, but the rest of the sock is a thinner knit, so it doesn't feel thick or tight in your shoe.

In practice, you get softness where your foot meets the ground without the whole sock becoming a thick winter sock. This makes Dennis comfortable both for exercise and for long days on your feet.

Can you wear merino wool socks for exercise? Isn't wool too warm?

Yes, merino wool is excellent for exercise. Contrary to what many people think, merino isn't just a winter material: it evens out temperature changes and wicks moisture away from your skin, so your feet stay drier and don't overheat as easily as in cotton socks. Even when it gets damp, wool keeps on warming instead of turning cold like wet cotton. That is exactly why a merino wool sock feels comfortable on a cool run and during a warmer workout alike.

Do the socks get clean at a low washing temperature?

Yes. The socks get clean even at a low temperature, as long as you use a good-quality detergent and a suitable wash programme. A high temperature is needed less often than people think – dirt and microbes come out well on a delicates cycle too, as long as the detergent does its job.

The recommended washing temperature is based on the merino wool in the socks. Wool fibres shrink, felt and get damaged easily in a hot wash, so a lower temperature isn't just enough – it's also the right way to keep your socks in good condition for longer. Besides merino wool, the socks contain other fibres that could handle a hotter wash, but it's best to care for the whole sock according to its most delicate fibre: the wool.

Merino wool also helps keep itself clean: it naturally resists odour, and its ability to repel dirt keeps the socks fresher for longer. In practice, this means you need to wash the socks less often, and a low washing temperature is usually more than enough.
